Huge Selection
For sushi fanatics, this menu has everything. Even those who don't care for sushi can select from a few other items and still enjoy the company of their friends in this Hillcrest landmark. A small bar seems constantly full, even during the few times when the restaurant isn't. But most nights, a wait for a table should be expected. Inside, it's a mixed crowd, but always gay-friendly (it's in the middle of the gayest part of Hillcrest, after all). For more mixed gay/straight fun after dinner, cross the street to Hillcrest's token straight bar The Alibi.

Best sushi in San Diego
This small chain (two, the other in Long Beach) brings excellent sushi and a sophisticated atmosphere to Hillcrest. I usually sit at the sushi bar and let the chef make me what he feels like. Ask James if he can make you a Monkfish pate and be ready to enjoy a slice of heaven down your throat.
The Straights Moved In
I have eaten at Ono Sushi since it opened up and the sushi has always been pretty good. It changed in ambience a year plus ago though when it became super straight. With that I probably really need a return trip too. Anyone been there lately?
