Bronx Pizza

(21 Ratings)
Pizza, NY style
If you're aching for some real thin crust NYC-style pizza, Bronx is the place to be. Cheap, quick, by the slice or the pie. And with its central Hillcrest location walking distance to many of the bars, it's convenient to get to as well.

Love the New York style (pizza and service)

When you don't have to experience it daily, it can be fun to get the "New York" treatment when ordering this excellent pizza by the slice just up the street from Urban Mo's / Fiesta Cantina (and adjacent to all-night taco shop legend La Posta). Don't ask to write a check or use credit, and don't hem and haw about your selection or you'll likely be passed over while the guy takes the order of the person behind you. The prior owner rarely shows up anymore, but used to have the best comeback lines (Customer: "What do you call this pizza with tomato?" Bronx Pizza employee: "We call that tomato.") Of course, the food is what keeps people coming back for more, and for a slice or two, it's a great value for a quick snack.

Cash only

That fact, cash only, may help you check your attitude at the door. Good pizza served fast and simple. Can get crowded, plan accordingly and be friendly. I like their what do they call it, whitestone, or something, pizza. Anything over 2 peeps might as well order a full pizza fresh from the oven. Call ahead or wait.

Best slice in SD

I used to go to Bronx for a slice (or two or three) every few weeks when I lived in SD. It's a total NY vibe there - no frills - just good, quality pies.
