Join elected officials, interfaith leaders, and San Diego's LGBT community at this official San Diego Pride 2017 event. To kick off Pride Week, we will witness the Cathedral's annual ceremonial lighting of its rainbow exterior.
This is the first “Pride with Purpose and Pride with Prayer” event of Pride week. St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, San Diego Pride, and San Diego's interfaith religious leaders will celebrate the historical connection between LGBT people of faith and affirming communities, as well as the origins of San Diego Pride in 1974.
The following people and organizations--which were instrumental in organizing the first San Diego Pride in the 1970s--will be honored at the lighting and kick-off event.:
-- Reverend Troy Perry, founder of Metropolitan Community Church (MCC);
-- Father Don Greene of Dignity; and
-- Nicole Murray Ramirez, Queen Mother of the Imperial Court de San Diego and a local LGBT activist
St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral and San Diego Pride, along with our affirming faith and religious leaders, will acknowledge and honor the affirming faith organizations and the courageous drag queens on whose shoulders we stand and who made it possible to organize our community into what ultimately became the San Diego Pride Parade and Festival.
Accessibility information: We will have ASL interpretation at this event. Reserved seating will be provided for people with disabilities. For any other accommodation requests, please email accessibility@sdpride.org.
