We invite you to the first 2015 fall reading for Non-Standard Lit at Gym Standard, on Sunday, October 4 at 5 pm, featuring two amazing readers: Marco Antonio Huerta and Román Luján.
Marco Antonio Huerta: Mexican translator and poet. Won the Carmen Alardín Poetry Award in 2005. Is the author of the poetry collections: La semana milagrosa (Conarte, 2006), Golden Boy (Letras de Pasto Verde, 2009), Hay un jardín (Tierra Adentro, 2009). Magnitud/e (Gusanos de la nada, 2012) is a poem-in-progress written together with Sara Uribe and translated into English by John Pluecker. His work has been published in several periodicals and anthologies in Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, and the United States. He has performed on experimental writing gatherings such as Not Content, curated by Vanessa Place and Teresa Carmody (Los Angeles, 2010), the & Now Festivals (San Diego, 2011; Paris, 2012), and Los límites del lenguaje (Monterrey, 2012). His interest is now focused in language as a community builder, especially in virtual contexts. Currently Huerta is a student at the MFA in Writing program at UC San Diego.
Román Luján, a Mexican poet and literary translator based in Los Angeles, is the author of Instrucciones para hacerse el valiente (2000), Aspa Viento (2003, artist book in collaboration with painter Jordi Boldó), Deshuesadero (2006) and Drâstel (2010). Coeditor of two anthologies of Mexican poetry, his work has appeared in Zur Dos: Última poesía latinoamericana (2004, 2005) and Malditos Latinos, Malditos Sudacas: Poesía Iberoamericana Made in USA (2009) among other compilations. Translations of his poetry have appeared in Jacket2, Aufgabe, Mandorla and Matter, among other journals. He is a Ph.D candidate at the University of California, Los Angeles
