After months of construction delays, a move from its longtime location on Fifth Avenue, and a “soft opening” in July, the store Mankind is finally fully open.

After months of construction delays, a move from its longtime location on Fifth Avenue, and a “soft opening” in July, the store Mankind is finally fully open.
The new location is right in the heart of the Hillcrest gayborhood at 1295 University Ave., next to Filter Coffee house, between Baja Betty's and Rich's.
The official Grand Opening will be at 8:30 PM on Friday, September 12. After the traditional ribbon-cutting at the new store, Harvey Milk’s American Diner will host a “Welcome to the heart of Hillcrest” party. Big Mike Phillips of the American Diner commented “Mankind has been a part of the Hillcrest community for as long as I can remember. We’re glad that they finally moved near the center of everything”.
Mankind Store Owner Brian Casey commented “Our whole staff looks forward to our new home. Our new “urban chic” store really shows off our designer clothes, and we are finally right where our customers are!” Carrying over 5000 products, Mankind offers an extensive range of gay and lesbian merchandise including: designer men's clothing, underwear, an extensive swimwear collection, DVD's, adult toys, and more!
The party will be from 9-11 PM, at the Diner, located at 535 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103.There will be a hosted bar, courtesy of Devotion Vodka, from 9-10, followed by a brief Mankind fashion show!
The evening will end with a raffle, with tickets being sold by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Prizes include gift cards from Mankind, Harvey Milk’s American Diner, and other local favorites. 100% of the proceeds of the raffle will benefit the Hillcrest Youth Center, the only drop-in and recreational center in San Diego County dedicated to the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and HIV+ (LGBTQ+) youth.
