The theme this year – “Stonewall 2.0: Activism for Equality” – celebrates a new generation of gay rights activists while remembering how far the LGBT community has come in the past 40 years. It kicks off at 11am on Saturday, July 18 from University & Normal St., and works its way through the heart of gay Hillcrest. Some of San Diego’s most popular gay bars (Rich’s, Universal, Flicks) are along this stretch of University, and you can be sure to find just as much partying going on inside as out on the street.

At 6th Ave. the parade cuts left and ends its mile stretch at 6th & Upas, just before Balboa Park. The park is a perfect spot to find some shade after a march in the sun, and once you’ve recuperated with a cold beverage, just follow the park path south about ten blocks to the festival. Located at 6th & Laurel, the festival is open from noon-10pm on the 18th, and 11am-8pm on the 19th. Over 300 exhibitors from across the nation await you inside, as does an eyeful of San Diego’s sun-kissed locals.
