She is a woman that will support anyone and anything she believes in. She has also been very active in her childrens lives, all 6 of them, along with some added family that became her children as well. As I said before, Donna will support who she believes in, and this is the reason that she has spent countless hours at football fields, basketball courts, and dance recitals. Since the passing of her Grandmother, and Mother (who both passed of breast cancer), Donna has been a very active supporter of Cancer walks & Relay for Life. Little did she know years later she would be the one we walk for. Last year she had a candle lit as a survivor, and we will continue to believe this will be the case for many walks to come. Before Donna was told this diagnosis, she was invloved in the Relay for Life in Imperial Beach, which was on June 9-10 2012. During this event Donna had a migraine which caused her to leave. This headache continued and she had to go to the emergency room. She then found out she had a brain tumor, unfortunately it was also cancerous. She had to have surgery to remove the tumor followed by Chemo.
In the fall of 2013 Donna found out her tumor had returned, it was determined a month later that surgery was needed immediately, due to the speed at which this one grew in a month. After her second surgery, Donna started Chemo again. A few days after starting chemo, Donna was sick all night with what was thought to be due to the chemo. Donna returned to the ER later that night to find out that the piece of her skull that was removed for surgery was infected. She spent a good month in the hospital.
What most people do not know about cancer treatment is that most insurance companies do not cover all medical cost. There are also special programs out there for certain cancers, unfortunately brain cancer is not one of them. Donna has A LOT of out of pocket expenses, for her cancer. During all this she has not been able to work to help support herself, her husband, and her children. This type of cancer that Donna has, has the life expectancy of 17 months, she is now at 19 months. We will continue to believe just as Donna does, and pray that her faith will get her and her family through this very trying time in everyones life.
